Finnish variety discount retailer Tokmanni Group has appointed Sampo Päällysaho as its new chief executive officer, succeeding Mika Rautiainen, who has held the position since 2018.
Päällysaho currently serves as senior vice-president for groceries at Helsinki-headquartered retailing cooperative SOK.

Tokmanni Group board of directors’ chairman Erkki Järvinen said: “I would already at this stage like to thank Mika for excellent cooperation and his unwavering commitment over the past seven years.
“Under his energetic leadership, Tokmanni Group has expanded internationally and grown into a significant Nordic retail chain. At the same time, I would like to warmly welcome Sampo to continue this success story.”
Päällysaho has previously held the roles of senior vice-president for consumer goods at SOK, managing director of Swedish home improvement and retail chain Clas Ohlson, and marketing and sales director at Kesko-owned K-Citymarket Chain.
He also holds several board positions, including vice board chair of Inex Partners and chair of the board of Finnish organic food association Pro Luomu.

Headquartered in Mäntsälä, Finland, Tokmanni Group operates 388 stores across Finland, Sweden and Denmark and employed 6,443 people at the end of 2025.
The retailer generated revenue of €1.73bn ($1.97bn) in 2025, up 3.2% year-on-year, while comparable earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell to €84.8m from €99.7m.
The group trades under several banners across the Nordic region. In Finland, it operates as Tokmanni; in Sweden, as Dollarstore; and in Denmark, as Big Dollar.
Last November, Tokmanni Group said Dollarstore will open two new outlets and one Big Dollar store.
Further launches across Sweden and Denmark are planned this year.
