Leratong City Mall is a regional shopping centre in Krugersdorp, South Africa.
McCormick Property Development (MPD) developed the mall, which is the company’s 89th retail project and the largest in its portfolio to date. Exemplar REITail manages the Leratong City Mall’s retail operations.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the mall was held in early June 2025, and the centre opened in October 2026.
The construction phase involved 1,050 total employment opportunities. To date, locals have secured 583 of these roles, representing a local labour participation rate of 55.52%.
Leratong City Mall development background
The mall’s opening marked the completion of a development project that had been in planning for several years and was first documented as an initiative in 2010.
The wider Leratong Smart City Development is being delivered through a partnership between the Gauteng Provincial Government, Mogale City Local Municipality, Trendvill Investments and McCormick Property Development.
Alongside the regional shopping centre, the economic and residential hub will serve Kagiso and surrounding communities in Mogale City.
The project is planned to include 15,000 housing units, a commercial precinct with government support services, and a private hospital. Up to 3,500 homes are expected to be delivered before the end of 2027.
The development is expected to generate 2,500 jobs in total and support 44 local small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and companies during construction.
