Romanian real estate developer Iulius has announced plans to expand its shopping mall in Suceava, Romania. The Iulius Mall Suceava, which opened in 2008, is one of the biggest shopping and entertainment venues in Northern Romania.

The mall is owned equally by Iulius and Atterbury Europe, a property investment firm based in the Netherlands.

In February 2022, Iulius announced that it would invest €40m ($44.74m) in the mall expansion, which  will bring its total investment in the retail facility to €110m ($123m).

Construction work on the expansion project is expected to begin in the second half of 2022, with completion expected at the end of 2023.

The expanded shopping centre will provide visitors with access to renowned fashion brands and new entertainment concepts and services.

Details of the Iulius Mall Suceava expansion

The shopping mall’s expansion will include the construction of an additional 14,000m² (150,694ft²) of leasable area, increasing the mall’s total area to more than 65,000m² (699,654ft²).

The expansion will be structured as a retail park, which will be internally connected to the existing mall, but will have direct access from the outside.

For the first time, it will bring a new mix of international fashion brands to the region, along with themed restaurants, cafes, open-air terraces, drive-thru locations, and leisure, relaxation, and promenade zones. Medical services will also be available within the mall.

Approximately 10,000m² (107,639ft²) of green and pedestrian area at the mall will also be reconfigured and refitted as part of the expansion.
