What is Marketing?
The Marketing category recognises any significant marketing campaign launched during the research period that has led to an increase in revenue or company profile. We will be specifically looking at campaigns introducing new concepts, imagery or taglines and those that demonstrate imagination in their portrayal of the brand.
Themes
One of the negative consequences of the pandemic has been the difficulty in drawing the public’s attention to new products due to the significant covid information flaws in the media. This has posed significant challenges to marketing efforts and retailers have dealt with the problem in several ways.
Live launch events and online masterclasses, which were popular in the pre-covid era, have become an important way to directly engage customers. In terms of store operations the covid emergency also acted as a catalyst for the increased adoption of contactless and checkout-free solutions.
Elsewhere store development has been going towards increased integration with websites and mobile apps, with some retailers adapting their shop-in-shop store concepts for operation in specific locations like airports.
Finally there has also been a clear trend in focusing on clean living and natural concepts, with beauty and sports retailers in particular highlighting these aspects of their products.
