Europe’s consumer industry saw a rise of 33.6% in deal activity during June 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 167 consumer industry deals worth $15.56bn were announced for the region in June 2019, against the 12-month average of 125 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in June 2019 with 98 transactions, representing a 58.7% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with 39 deals, followed by private equity deals with 30 transactions, respectively capturing a 23.4% and 18% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, private equity was the leading category in Europe’s consumer industry with $11.01bn, while M&A and venture financing deals totalled $4.43bn and $115.18m, respectively.

Europe consumer industry deals in June 2019: Top deals

The top five consumer deals accounted for 87.2% of the overall value during June 2019.

The combined value of the top five consumer deals stood at $13.57bn, against the overall value of $15.56bn recorded for the month. The top announced consumer deal tracked by GlobalData in June 2019 was Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, KIRKBI Invest and The Blackstone Group’s $7.56bn private equity deal with Merlin Entertainments.

In second place was the $2.83bn stake acquisition of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels by Agapier Investments and in third place was TDR Capital’s $2.4bn private equity deal with BCA Marketplace.

The $405m private equity deal with Boyner Perakende ve Tekstil Yatirimlari by Mayhoola for Investments and Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s acquisition of ICR Cyprus for $375m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
