
North America’s consumer industry saw a drop of 11.5% in overall deal activity during Q4 2019, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 577 deals worth $78.78bn were announced for the region during Q4 2019, against the last four-quarter average of 652 deals.
Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q4 2019 with 307, representing a 53.2% share for the region.
In second place was venture financing with 216 deals, followed by private equity deals with 54 transactions, respectively capturing a 37.4% and 9.4% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s consumer industry with $73.63bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $3.09bn and $2.06bn, respectively.

The top five consumer deals accounted for 72.02% of the overall value during Q4 2019.
The combined value of the top five consumer deals stood at $56.74bn, against the overall value of $78.78bn recorded for the quarter.

1) ‘s $26.2bn merger of DuPont Nutrition Biosciences and International Flavors & Fragrances
2) The $16.29bn acquisition of Tiffany & by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton
3) ‘s $6bn merger of The Stars Group and Flutter Entertainment
4) The $4.25bn asset transaction with MGM Resorts International by Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust
5) Froneri International’s asset transaction with Nestle for $4bn.
