US consumer industry sees a rise of 4.6% in deal activity in December 2020

The US consumer industry saw a rise of 4.6% in overall deal activity during December 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 160 deals worth $8.97bn were announced in December 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 153 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 81 deals which accounted for 50.6% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with 52 deals, followed by private equity with 27 transactions, respectively accounting for 32.5% and 16.9% of overall deal activity in the country’s consumer industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US consumer industry with total deals worth $5bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $3.49bn and $490.2m, respectively.

US consumer industry deals in December 2020: Top deals

The top five consumer industry deals accounted for 65.7% of the overall value during December 2020.

The combined value of the top five consumer deals stood at $5.9bn, against the overall value of $8.97bn recorded for the month.

4) The $556m asset transaction with 9830 Macarthur, Reliance Equities Group and ZN Direct by Mohawk Group Holdings and Truweo

5) Central Garden & Pet’s acquisition of Green Garden Products for $532m.
