The US consumer industry saw a rise of 0.9% in overall deal activity during Q3 2019, when compared with the last four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 557 deals worth $23.16bn were announced in Q3 2019, compared to the last four-quarter average of 552 deals.
M&A was the leading category in the quarter with 269 deals which accounted for 48.3% of all deals.
In second place was venture financing with 231 deals, followed by private equity with 57 transactions, respectively accounting for 41.5% and 10.2% of overall deal activity in the country’s consumer industry during the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US consumer industry with total deals worth $10.4bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $9.42bn and $3.34bn, respectively.

The top five consumer deals accounted for 52.2% of the overall value during Q3 2019.
The combined value of the top five consumer deals stood at $12.1bn, against the overall value of $23.16bn recorded for the month.

1) Mirae Asset Global Investments’ $5.8bn private equity deal with Anbang Insurance Group
2) The $2.35bn acquisition of NBA Media Ventures by Joseph Tsai
3) KKR &Inc’s $2.2bn private equity deal with Campbell Soup
4) The $1bn acquisition of VMG Quest Blocker and Voyage Holdings by The Simply Good Foods
5) Liberty Tax’s acquisition of Vitamin Shoppe for $750.37m.
