Canada’s retail industry registered a 4.8% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 6.22% in November 2021 when compared with October 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed an 8.16% share in November 2021, recording a decrease of 0.77% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.26% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in November 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 76.3% in November 2021, registering a 46.35% decline over the previous month.

2) Computer Support Specialists claimed an 8.15% share, a decrease of 4.35% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 5.93%, registering an 11.11% decline from October 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 5.56%, down 34.78% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in November 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 43.87% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during November 2021 over October 2021.

Amazon posted 138 IT jobs in November 2021 and registered a drop of 59.41% over the previous month, followed by Loblaw Companies with 30 jobs and a 25% growth. Metro with 27 IT jobs and Canadian Tire with 23 jobs, recorded a 145.45% growth and a 27.78% growth, respectively, while Rakuten Group recorded a decline of 26.67% with 11 job postings during November 2021.

Entry Level job postings dominate in November 2021

Entry Level jobs held a share of 45.93%, down by 40.67% from October 2021. Junior Level positions with a 45.19% share, registered a decline of 34.41% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 8.89% share, down 62.5% over October 2021.
