The US retail industry registered a 1.7% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 0.95% in July 2021 compared with June 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.77% share in July 2021, recording an increase of 0.17% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the US retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.49% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US retail industry in July 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 73.94% in July 2021, a 14.05% drop over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed an 8.8% share, an increase of 47.91% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 5.13%, registering a 90.07% rise from June 2021.

4) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations captured a share of 5.01%, down 12.96% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in the US IT recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 8.4% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the US retail industry during July 2021 over June 2021.

Amazon posted 3,095 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 10.24% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 436 jobs and a 1.63% growth. CVS Health with 159 IT jobs and Chewy with 120 jobs, recorded a 7.02% drop and a 4.76% decline, respectively, while Lowe’s Companies recorded a 3.6% an increase with 115 job postings during July 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 51.62%, down by 9.55% from June 2021. Entry Level positions with a 26.5% share, a decline of 0.07% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 21.48% share, down 8.1% over June 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.38%, recording a month-on-month decline of 16.67%.
