Albertsons Companies has implemented Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions’ self-service checkout System 6 across its Jewel, ACME, Shaw’s, Safeway, Carrs, Tom Thumb, Randalls and Vons brands.
The decision was made to prepare for an upgrade to Toshiba’s System 7 later this year.
The retailer is also piloting mobile point-of-sale and line-busting solutions to reduce the time that customers take at checkout.
Albertsons intends to implement the TCx Elevate mobile operations manager application to allow store associates to clear interventions, carry out overrides, and scan items on the bottom of the basket directly from their mobile device. It will support associates to better serve shoppers at both self-checkout and traditional front-end lanes.
Through the partnership, Albertsons and Toshiba will offer immediate and long-term initiatives to better engage shoppers, optimise front-end throughput and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
Albertsons Cos executive vice-president and chief information officer Anuj Dhanda said: “We are empowering our consumers to curate their in-store shopping experiences based on their needs and desires.
