Supermarket chain Aldi has adopted a new shelf liner system with built-in technologies, from Netherlands-based Parx Plastics, across its US stores.

The shelf liners help secure hygiene and prevent cross contamination in meat and poultry in Aldi’s freezer and refrigerator section, and to prevent adhesion of biofilm and bacteria.

“By adopting this technology, the originally European discounter is taking a leading position with its stores in the US.”

Parx technologies were previously integrated into drainage systems of freezers and refrigerators, in UK supermarkets, for a test period of 12 to 14 months. It provided a sustainable anti-clogging solution, reducing call-outs by up to 100% over a period of time, as well as replacing the use of harmful chemicals.

Parx Plastics said: “By adopting this technology, the originally European discounter is taking a leading position with its stores in the US.

“By adopting a shelf liner system with the Parx technologies build-in, it has selected the cleanest and safest solution there is available today. Securing the utmost hygiene in their stores.”
