US retail giant Amazon’s quick commerce unit, Amazon Now, has surpassed $1bn in gross annualised sales in India over the past quarter.
Speaking to The Economic Times, Amazon India country manager Samir Kumar said the growth has been driven by orders doubling every quarter, with Prime members shopping around three times more frequently on Amazon Now than non-Prime customers.

The gross annualised sales figure is derived by extrapolating a month’s or quarter’s total gross sales across a full year.
It captures the value of orders placed after discounts and cancellations, excluding goods and services tax (GST).
Kumar added that uptake among non-Prime shoppers has also picked up pace as the service pushes into smaller towns and cities, with a portion of this segment subsequently signing up for Prime membership.
“Prime is a big driver for our flywheel, but even non-Prime customers are coming in quite a good number. As we start reaching smaller cities, we are also seeing a very, very healthy growth in non-Prime customers. They are also converting to Prime,” Kumar was quoted as saying.
Amazon Now debuted in the March quarter of last year.
Earlier this year, during his first trip to India since becoming chief executive in 2021, Andy Jassy said the service would extend to over 300 cities and establish the country’s largest delivery-in-minutes network.
It is on track to cover 100 cities by Diwali (November) and operate 1,000 dark stores before the year is out.
Sources cited in the report put Amazon Now’s daily order count at around 700,000, giving it close to 10% of the market by order volume and 14% by value.
Kumar linked the platform’s future trajectory to deeper reach in smaller cities and towns, pointing out that approximately 70% of Amazon’s total customer base is already drawn from these markets.
Amazon Now has entered markets such as Udupi, Warangal and Guntur, with Kapurthala and Gurdaspur next in line for rollout.
