American e-commerce platform BigCommerce announced it has added native support to improve shopping experience on mobile devices.

The platform will integrate an open-source framework, accelerated mobile pages (AMP), launched by Google to allow 55,000 of BigCommerce merchants to deliver near-instant page load times for mobile shoppers.

AMP will assist BigCommerce merchants in generating a streamlined version of their website’s, which includes the category and product detail pages, on mobile devices.

“Mobile has become the primary shopping method for many online consumers, and e-commerce brands are increasingly realising that their mobile sites need greater prioritisation.”

BigCommerce chief technology officer Brian Dhatt said: “Mobile has become the primary shopping method for many online consumers, and e-commerce brands are increasingly realising that their mobile sites need greater prioritisation.

“AMP effectively removes extraneous details that distract from the shopping experience, allowing shoppers to quickly access catalogue and product pages, find the information that is most relevant to their purchase decision and proceed to checkout without the typical friction often associated with mobile shopping.”

With the new integration, BigCommerce merchants can automatically optimise website imagery across all device types delivering faster page-load times and higher conversion rates.

Pixel Union, an e-commerce design agency, is a partner of BigCommerce since 2015.

Pixel Union CEO Ben Moore said: “Until now, many e-commerce brands have been unable to adopt AMP into their stores due to excessive coding requirements and lack of costly development resources.

“Today, we are thrilled to be partnering with BigCommerce to offer AMP-enabled e-commerce themes across our entire Pixel Union catalogue, giving online merchants a game-changing solution for harnessing the growth of mobile commerce and the power of world-class mobile design.”
