Home furnishings retailer IKEA has leased two customer fulfilment centres in the US in order to support its network of five regional distribution facilities.
The two leased facilities in Baytown, Texas; and American Canyon, California, will provide additional warehouse space, enabling deliveries to customers who order online or purchase larger items in-store.
The existing network of five distribution centres currently caters to the company’s 45 US-based stores.
IKEA US president Lars Petersson said: “As we expand across the country and grow our online presence, we want to ensure we have sufficient warehouse capacity to support the efficient and timely delivery and shipment of products to our customers.
“Our goal is to increase accessibility to the IKEA product selection, and these two fulfilment centres will help us meet the home furnishing needs of many American customers.”
The 1,000,000ft² leased space in Baytown represents the company’s fourth location in Texas. It comprises two buildings and is located in the Cedar Port Industrial Park, 30 miles east of downtown Houston.
