American retail department store chain Kohl’s has revealed its sustainability goals for 2025 as part of its corporate social responsibility platform.

The company has planned to focus on sustainable sourcing, waste and recycling and climate action.

The company plans to further the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) by employing business ideas that complement the objectives of sustainability.

Kohl CEO Michelle Gass said: “At Kohl’s, we are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen, making our communities stronger by supporting initiatives and organisations that focus on health and wellness, sustainability, and environmental efforts that benefit all families.

“We are proud to share our sustainability goals that support Kohl’s efforts to enhance our standing as a retailer of purpose.”

The retailer aims to decrease greenhouse gases by 50% in all  operations owned by Kohl’s by 2025. It will also further expand renewable energy assets from its current 161 solar and wind locations.

Kohl’s also plans to reduce the waste generated by diverting around 85% of its waste away from landfills in the US. The company will also use How2Recycle label on all its packaging.

By 2025, the company will sustainably source its raw materials and efficiently use water and other natural resources. It also plans to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals.

The company also plans to complete the Higg Index Environmental Module for all its branded products.

The company’s yearly Corporate Social Responsibility report will feature the progress and will monitor and report the performance for all the goals for 2025.
