Kroger Health president Colleen Lindholz said: “This new service combines the convenience of grocery delivery with the personalised care provided by our pharmacy teams.
“Customers have groceries and eligible prescriptions delivered together, knowing their prescriptions are filled and verified by the trusted Kroger pharmacy teams who serve their communities every day.”
According to the statement, it links shoppers to more than 2,200 Kroger pharmacy sites through Instacart’s delivery network.
Under the arrangement, Kroger pharmacy staff will fill and verify eligible prescriptions before passing them to an Instacart shopper for delivery.
Customers wishing to use the service need to be logged in and have My Prescriptions account linked via Kroger’s website or app.
Instacart chief commercial officer Ryan Hamburger added: “Together with Kroger, we are making it easier for customers to access groceries and pharmacy services in one order, bringing greater convenience to everyday life while preserving the trusted pharmacy experience customers depend on.”
The announcement follows Kroger’s deal last month to acquire privately owned rival Giant Eagle, a food and pharmacy retailer, in a transaction worth $1.65bn.
Kroger will pay $1.25bn in cash and assume close to $400m of Giant Eagle’s existing liabilities under the deal.
During the same month, Instacart acquired Arpalus, a computer vision company focused on shelf intelligence technology within the grocery retail space.
The acquisition is intended to strengthen inventory accuracy across Instacart’s e-commerce operations and in-store processes.
On the financial side, Kroger reported growth in both earnings and revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2026 while maintaining its full-year guidance across its main financial metrics.
Total sales for the quarter ending 23 May 2026 reached $46.12bn, up from $45.11bn in the same period last year.
