Amazon is set to deliver goods straight to customer’s Audi cars, under a partnership with DHL Parcel and Audi.

The e-commerce retailer will launch a pilot project in May this year.

As part of the pilot project, a small group of Prime subscribers in Munich, Germany, will receive deliveries straight to the boots of their cars.

The delivery services that are currently available to specific users will be expanded further to all prime customers, regardless of what vehicle they own.

When ordering goods, the customers must provide the approximate location of their car.

The delivery driver tracks and locates the car for a set period covering the delivery window. The delivery driver will be provided with temporary keyless access to open the boot of the car only, which is removed when the boot is shut.

Amazon Prime EU director Michael Pasch said: "We are working to offer Prime members a delivery location that is always available and convenient: the trunk of their car. This innovation makes shopping at Amazon even easier and more flexible. It gives customers another way to receive their orders."

In addition, Amazon.com is planning to build a new distribution center in the city of Shakopee, in the US state of Minnesota, a move that will create close to 1000 jobs. The 820,000ft2 facility will see an investment of around $55m.

Scheduled to open in 2017, majority of the the building’s area will be used as warehouse space. The centre will be primarily used for processing shipments and will require significant improvements to the existing infrastructure and roads.
