Canadian department store Hudson’s Bay (HBC) is set to open a new store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as part of its organic growth strategy for Europe.

The company also plans to open nine additional stores this month.

Each department throughout the new store has been tailored to the Dutch consumer and will highlight fresh products and a mix of national and international brands, mid-market brands and emerging brands.

HBC CEO Jerry Storch said: “This is a historic moment in HBC’s 347-year history, marking the first Hudson’s Bay store ever to open outside of Canada and adding a new market to our diverse geographic footprint.

“Just 16 months after we announced our plans to enter the Dutch market, we are very excited to introduce our innovative, all-channel retail model to the Netherlands.”

HBC has filled 1,600 jobs for its first ten stores opening in the Netherlands and will continue to fill roles as the company expands across the country.

The stores that are set to open this month are The Hague & Rotterdam, Leiden & Breda, Maastricht, Zwolle & Almere, and Den Bosch & Tilburg.

Hudson’s Bay offers brands such as TOPSHOP and TOPMAN, CK Jeans, The Kooples, Nike, Hugo, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger, Rika, Love Stories, MAC, Chanel, Aveda, Dyson, Vedder & Vedder, Vitra, Hay and Samsonite.

Hudson’s Bay worked with architect CallisonRTKL to design the department stores in the Netherlands.

The company is currently operating 90 full-line locations and thebay.com.
