Apparel retailer Reitmans (Canada) Limited (RCL) has chosen materials handling systems and technology solutions provider SDI Element Logic to enhance its inventory management.
The retailer deploys SDI’s SORTRAK system at its distribution centre in Montreal, Quebec.
The move is part of the retailer’s effort to modernise its supply chain infrastructure and maintain its position in the evolving retail sector.
The new material handling solution will replace six older sorters, the first of which was installed by SDI Element Logic in 1996.
RCL Distribution & Logistics vice-president Domenic Carbone stated: “Our 30-year partnership with SDI Element Logic continues to drive innovation at RCL. We are excited about the new SORTRAK project and look forward to the next chapter in our ongoing strategic relationship with SDI Element Logic.
“Implementing the SORTRAK will enhance our efficiency through a significant reduction in the number of touches per item, and by making better use of our space. As a result, we will improve service levels for our retail operations through improved accuracy, while streamlining inventory and shipping processes.”

By GlobalDataSDI Element Logic president Christopher Larkins has been working with Reitmans since 1994, witnessing the transition of retail from traditional stores to an omnichannel shopping experience.
Larkins stated: “SORTRAK’s innovative design permits versatile warehouse configurations, meaning RCL can install longer sorters in its existing space. Reitmans can now configure multiple flows through a single sorter, thereby optimising the operation of its facility.”
