Spar UK Partner, the Henderson Group, has announced plans to trial the ‘scan, pay and go’ app of British retail technology start-up Ubamarket, using its EDGEPoS system, across select stores in Northern Ireland.
Henderson Group will initially test the scan, pay and go app in small number of Spar and Eurospar Supermarkets. The app will also be integrated with Henderson Technology’s new self-checkout systems, currently installed in stores across Northern Ireland.
Customers can use the app around the store to find and add items to their shopping carts, scan goods while shopping, and pay using their phone.
Ubamarket CEO Will Broome said: “Ubamarket provides retailers and consumers with a nimble scan-and-go system, allowing them to enjoy the convenient service offered on online platforms, in bricks and mortar stores.”
Henderson technology head Darren Nickels said: “We know from the stores we own and operate in the group, that customer needs and expectations are changing, and we are ensuring our solutions meet those needs both now and into the future.”
Spar selected Henderson Group as its franchise to operate its Northern Ireland stores in 1960. The group currently operates 300 SPAR stores across the region.
Spar UK operates through five regional partners with distribution centres in each region and a central office located in London.
