Walmart also plans to expand the mobile check-in feature to all Grocery Pickup store locations next year.

“Walmart is always looking for innovative approaches to help our customers save time and money and we’re constantly trying new things.”

Walmart Canada president and CEO Lee Tappenden said: “Walmart is always looking for innovative approaches to help our customers save time and money and we’re constantly trying new things.

“We’re thrilled to offer the Mobile Check-in technology to customers, potentially shaving valuable minutes off their online grocery pickup experience.

“Early next year we’ll also trial Pickup Towers, another way we are using our stores to offer convenience and time saving options to our customers.”

The Pickup Towers concept in Canada is part of the retailer’s strategy to integrate its e-commerce offering and bricks-and-mortar retail stores.

The company will begin with two pilot locations in Oakville, Ontario and Mississauga, Ontario.

Pickup Towers are 16ft tall units designed to deliver customer’s online general merchandise order in less than a minute.

Walmart will also expand shipping and delivery options and free online grocery pickup at stores to serve Canadian customers.
