Academy Sports + Outdoors plans to open nine further stores this quarter across several US states, following the opening of two new locations in Ohio and Texas.
According to the US retailer, the 11 new stores are expected to create more than 650 jobs in their local communities.
The retailer has so far opened seven new stores this year and plans to open between 20 and 25 locations across the fiscal year.
Academy has opened more than 60 new stores since 2022.
This included 24 stores across 16 states in 2025, marking its first locations in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and 16 stores across ten states in 2024.
The company stocks apparel, footwear, and camping, fishing, hunting, outdoor cooking and sports equipment from brands, including Adidas, Carhartt, Marucci, Owala, Shimano and Titleist.
It also carries its own private label brands such as Magellan Outdoors, Freely, H2OX, Redfield and Mosaic.
Academy offers same-day delivery on eligible purchases, alongside free in-store services, including grill and bike assembly, scope mounting, and bore sighting.
Academy Sports + Outdoors retail operations senior vice-president Eric Friederich said: “Our strategic growth reflects both the strength of the business and our commitment to the families and communities we serve.
"With every new store, we are proud to partner with a local nonprofit organisation to support kids and families by bringing more opportunities to play, connect and create meaningful moments where fun can't lose.”
Earlier this month, Academy Sports + Outdoors partnered with Instacart to provide same-day delivery in "as fast as an hour" via the Instacart Marketplace.
Under the arrangement, Instacart customers can browse the retailer’s range across categories such as apparel, camping and fishing equipment, fitness gear, and footwear, as well as its private label brands.
Instacart said at the time that the products would carry no markups.
