E-commerce giant Amazon has revealed that it has partnered with Riviant to roll out its new custom electric delivery vans in Germany.

The retailer will deploy more than 300 vans in Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf in the next few weeks.

The vans come with 360-degree visibility and a suite of safety features, including a large windshield, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and collision warnings.

According to Amazon, the vans are also equipped with the 'first-of-its-kind' embedded technology that fully integrates the delivery workflow with the vehicle.

To improve driver experience, the Rivian vans also feature automatic door locking/unlocking, a powered bulkhead door and an ergonomically designed driver's cabin and cargo area.

Rivian strategy and go to market vice-president Dagan Mishoulam said: "We're thrilled to see the EDV rolling out in Germany today. This vehicle was designed in conjunction with our partners at Amazon and not only puts driver convenience and safety first but also the environment.

"We've had incredible feedback from drivers in the US and we're excited to start international expansion in Germany."

Rivian has been conducting delivery trials with preproduction vehicles in Europe since 2022.

In the same year, the retailer revealed that it would invest more than €1bn ($1.08bn) in the coming years to electrify its European transportation network.

It will invest more than €400m ($435.7m) in Germany.

The e-commerce retailer has already started deploying Rivian's custom electric delivery vans in the US, with more than 3,000 vans operating in more than 500 US cities and regions.

Amazon plans to operate 100,000 electric delivery vehicles from Rivian globally by 2030.

Amazon Global fleet & product director Neil Emery said: "Together, Amazon and Rivian designed and built a state-of-the-art electric vehicle from the ground up, unlike anything else on the road today.

"The safety and comfort of our drivers were top of mind for us throughout this process and we've raised the bar on both with the vehicle we are rolling out in Europe today."
