Co-op launches new supermarket in Ashburton, Devon

The 3,000ft² store will offer products including fresh and healthy foods, a bakery section, convenient food-to-go and meal deals.

British co-operative group Co-op has opened a new supermarket in Dolbeare Meadow, Ashburton, in the English county of Devon.

The 3,000ft² store will offer fresh and healthy foods, a bakery section, convenient food-to-go, a variety of meal deals, Fairtrade items, pizzas, flowers, ready meals, beers and wines.

The opening will create 15 jobs.

The newly opened store supplements the company's smaller outlet on North Street, Ashburton.

Co-op’s store manager Dan Wells stated: “The whole team is delighted to have had the opportunity to invest in Ashburton. The store looks fantastic, and we are really enjoying welcoming the community into their new Co-op.

“... We have a focus on being a hub locally for the community, delivering the quality, choice, value and added services which can be enjoyed by everyone. We're here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support Ashburton.”

A Costa Coffee Express machine will be installed in the store in the near future, and the location includes a free ATM and car parking facilities.

An InPost Locker will also be available to support parcel delivery and collection services.

The new Co-op features a soft plastic recycling point, enabling customers to recycle items such as crisp packets, bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers,and pet food pouches.

In September 2025, Co-op reported a £80m ($107m) hit to its first half-year (H1) 2025 operating profits due to a cyber-attack in April, including £20m in one-off costs.

The attack contributed to an underlying pre-tax loss of £75m for the six months ending 5 July 2025, compared to a £3m profit in the same period of the previous year.

The impact of the cyber attack on sales revenue of Co-op was £206m.
