The Home Depot, based in the US state of Georgia, has completed its previously announced acquisition of speciality building products distributor GMS for a total enterprise value of $5.5bn.

The home improvement retailer completed the deal, first announced early in 2025, through its trade distribution subsidiary, SRS Distribution.

GMS distributes speciality building products such as drywall, ceilings and steel framing to residential and commercial markets.

GMS has become a direct subsidiary of SRS and an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Home Depot.

The deal is part of Home Depot’s plan to expand its offerings for professional contractors (Pros) by providing services for projects of all sizes.

The Home Depot chair, president and CEO Ted Decker stated: “The addition of GMS further enhances SRS's position as a leading multi-category building materials distributor, bringing differentiated capabilities, product categories and customer relationships that are highly complementary to SRS’s business today.

“We want to serve the Pro across their entire project, and the combination of SRS and GMS will enable cross-selling synergies, strengthen our capabilities, and bring even more opportunities to grow with this important customer.”

In 2024, Home Depot acquired SRS to expand its reach within the residential professional sector.

Together, GMS and SRS will collaborate to expand fulfilment and service options for residential and commercial professionals, aiming to facilitate quicker and more seamless project completion.

As a home improvement specialty retailer, Home Depot operated over 2,353 stores, more than 800 branches and around 325 distribution centres at the end of second quarter of fiscal 2025.

These facilities process customer orders over all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, Mexico and ten Canadian provinces.
