Grocery retailer Kroger has introduced “on-demand and same-day” grocery delivery across the US through apps operated by Uber Technologies.
It gives shoppers access to nearly 2,700 stores across the Kroger Family of Companies.
As part of the launch, Kroger banners are now integrated across Uber Eats, Uber and Postmates.
Customers can order fresh food, Kroger’s Our Brands products and household essentials for immediate fulfilment or scheduled delivery later the same day.
Kroger digital experience and e-commerce group vice-president Jody Kalmbach said: “Customers' needs evolve constantly, and at Kroger, we're committed to meeting them with solutions that fit every moment with the understanding that what is convenient changes day-to-day.
"Collaborating with Uber enables us to deliver even more convenience and flexibility, helping more families access the food they love with ease and reliability.”
The service enables customers to browse full-store assortments from regional banners such as Ralphs, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Smith’s, Fry’s, Harris Teeter and Mariano’s.
It expands on Kroger’s floral and sushi selections, which had already been available via Uber Eats.
The nationwide rollout follows a previously announced agreement between the two companies aimed at increasing access, choice and value for households by widening the availability of digital grocery shopping through Uber’s platforms.
According to the press statement, Uber is providing discounts of up to 50% on first orders from selected Kroger banners to coincide with the launch.
Uber One members are also eligible for a $0 delivery fee on qualifying orders, subject to terms and conditions, it added.
Uber North America grocery and retail head Hashim Amin added: “Making Kroger's banners available across Uber's apps gives shoppers a simple, reliable way to get their weekly groceries or last-minute items whenever they need them. We're excited to begin working on our shared vision for convenience and to give households even more flexibility in the months ahead.”
Earlier this week, Kroger confirmed a series of senior leadership promotions and retirements across its US retail divisions.
Atlanta division president Victor Smith was promoted to senior vice-president of retail divisions.
