Nike has reorganised its senior leadership as it continues to pursue its wide-ranging 'Win Now' turnaround plan.
The company is creating a new post of chief operating officer (COO) and adding the heads of its four geographic regions to its senior leadership team.
At the same time, Nike is abolishing the roles of chief technology officer (CTO) and chief commercial officer (CCO), and placing its global and direct-to-consumer sales operations under the oversight of its chief financial officer (CFO).
Nike chief executive Elliott Hill said the shake-up is intended to streamline decision-making by cutting management layers and to help Nike accelerate its 'Win Now' strategy.
Under that road map, the group has been sharpening its focus on performance sportswear and athletes, moving away from a greater emphasis on casual footwear and apparel.
As part of the changes, chief supply chain officer Venkatesh Alagirisamy has been appointed to the newly established role of COO, effective 8 December.
In his expanded position, Alagirisamy will take charge of technology activities alongside his existing responsibilities, which include supply chain, planning, operations, manufacturing and sustainability.
With technology now under the COO remit, the separate CTO position has been removed, and Muge Dogan will leave the business.
Nike has also moved the leaders of its four key regions onto the senior leadership team, with all four now reporting directly to Hill.
Angela Dong, who oversees Greater China; Carl Grebert, responsible for Europe, the Middle East and Africa; Tom Peddie, who leads North America; and Cathy Sparks, in charge of Asia-Pacific and Latin America, will now sit on the company’s top leadership body.
In another structural shift, Nike has scrapped the CCO role held by Craig Williams.
The group’s global and direct sales operations will now report to CFO Matt Friend.
Hill added: “These changes amount to us eliminating layers and better positioning Nike to continue to have an impact the way only Nike can. I am confident we will be able to accelerate the core aspects of our Win Now actions.”
