SPAR France has introduced its latest supermarket concept in Sanary-sur-Mer, a coastal town in the Var department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, following the conversion and enlargement of a former Vival outlet.

The 218m² store is run by independent retailers Eric and Aïcha Poidevin and is staffed by a six-person team. It operates seven days a week from 8:30am to 8:00pm.

The supermarket has been fitted with SPAR France’s new modular “toolbox” design concept, intended to be adaptable to different settings, including urban, seaside, tourist and rural locations.

The format has been developed to address shifting shopper expectations, with an emphasis on mobility, local sourcing and everyday convenience.

The Sanary-sur-Mer store offers more than 3,000 stock keeping units (SKUs), combining daily essentials with products from local and regional producers.

Service counters include a butcher and fishmonger, alongside a fresh fruit and vegetable area.

The shop also incorporates an in-store bakery, a food-to-go offer and a wine cellar highlighting wines from Provence vineyards.

Local supply agreements are a core component of the new format, with fresh produce sourced directly from nearby farms.

Additional services available include home delivery, cashback at the till and access to ice machines.

To mark the opening, the store hosted a regional wine tasting. Shoppers were given branded tote bags and a €3 ($3.4) discount on purchases above €20.

The launch follows the opening in July 2025 of the first new-generation SPAR supermarket in Luynes, near Aix-en-Provence.

That site was developed jointly by Casino Group, which holds the SPAR licence in France, and SPAR France’s network of independent retailers, which operate 95% of the banner’s stores nationwide.
