Global coffeehouse chain Starbucks is deploying NomadGo Inventory AI technology across its more than 11,000 locations in North America.

NomadGo Inventory AI tech combines computer vision, 3D spatial intelligence and augmented reality, allowing employees to automate inventory counting using just a smartphone or tablet.

It delivers results up to eight times faster than manual methods with 99% accuracy, according to NomadGo.

Workers can scan shelves, refrigerators and display cases, with the AI instantly recognising and counting items such as milk jugs or coffee bags.

Real-time data is overlaid using augmented reality for instant validation, and the technology runs directly on the handheld device, ensuring responsiveness even in the absence of a network connection.

Starbucks plans to implement NomadGo’s Inventory AI in all company-owned and operated coffeehouses by the end of September 2025.

Starbucks chief technology officer Deb Hall Lefevre stated: “This technology streamlines a critical but time-intensive task.

“With faster, more accurate inventory counts, our partners can spend more time focusing on what matters: crafting high-quality beverages and connecting with customers.”

The implementation is anticipated to bring near-perfect transparency to store operations, enhancing the visibility of the supply chain, boosting product availability and cutting down on expenses.

NomadGo CEO David Greschler stated: “Our technology not only streamlines inventory management but also delivers frequent, highly accurate data that prevents out-of-stock situations, and lowers cost of goods sold. Businesses can now match supply to demand with unprecedented precision.”

In June 2025, Starbucks announced that it is implementing a new staffing and service framework across all its 18,000 outlets in North America.
