The deployment will enable the smooth flow of materials and improve uptime in the facility.

Multinational retail corporation Walmart has partnered with Swisslog to implement an advanced automation solution in its Robinson facility in Texas, US.

The retailer will deploy Swisslog's automated storage and retrieval solution (ASRS), powered by SynQ software, to enhance transparency and ensure the delivery of quality products.

The ASRS, designed by Swisslog's automation experts, integrates five Vectura pallet stacker cranes, a ProMove pallet conveyor system, KUKA palletising and de-palletising robots and a conveyor system for small loads.

The solution's intelligence is driven by Swisslog's SynQ software, which combines warehouse management, material flow and automation control system functionalities on a single platform.

The deployment enables seamless material flow and increases uptime.

Walmart's decision to implement the ASRS underscores its commitment to a resilient and transparent supply chain, crucial for delivering high-quality products.

The automation will also support the retailer's ability to meet the growing consumer demand for milk.

Walmart plans to break ground on the milk processing facility in the second half of 2024, with the opening scheduled for 2026.

Products from this facility will supply 750 Walmart stores and Sam's Clubs across the South.

Swisslog's IT Managed Services will offer Walmart expert management of the IT systems and software essential for maintaining the peak performance of the equipment.

This service enables the retailer to allocate internal resources away from routine IT system administration and proactive maintenance.

The Texas facility marks the third Walmart milk processing site to use Swisslog's ASRS with SynQ software and Vectura cranes.

The two companies previously collaborated on Walmart’s first milk processing facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 2018. This served as a model for the second facility in Valdosta, Georgia, expected to open in 2025, and the newly announced Texas facility.

Swisslog Americas president and CEO Sean Wallingford said: "This has been a very collaborative relationship as our two teams work together to create value for Walmart and ensure our automation solutions and software enable the company and its farmers to bring fresh, transparently sourced dairy to market."
