Addressing workforce development and economic mobility

Retail remains one of the largest private-sector job creators, accounting for tens of millions of jobs in the United States.

By targeting workforce development through training and certification, the programme seeks to expand economic mobility for individuals and strengthen the retail talent pipeline.

The initiative aligns with broader efforts by both foundations to address evolving workforce needs and to offer structured pathways into sustainable careers.

Role of partners and future outlook

The NRF Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the National Retail Federation, leads efforts to equip individuals with practical skills and resources for long-term employment, while the PepsiCo Foundation focuses on community investment and workforce development.

Together, the organisations aim to translate training into recognised retail credentials and improved job prospects.

The programme’s roll-out with community partners could inform future collaborations between industry and education providers seeking to bridge skills gaps and support workforce readiness.
