Samsung Electronics Co. has spotted an opportunity to tap into the Smart Living concept. The brand recently announced the launch of its voice-activated personal assistant (Bixby) on all Samsung Galaxy S8 devices, with a view to extending this interactivity to its vast umbrella of home appliances in the future.
Nearly two-thirds (63%) of consumers globally say they find it somewhat/very appealing to be able to control home appliances (e.g. central heating, air conditioning, kitchen gadgets) using their smartphone, according to GlobalData’s 2016 Q3 global consumer survey. This indicates that today’s hyper -connected consumer is not likely to miss any opportunity to interact and control their devices at home even when on-the-go!
The company’s aim to introduce Bixby into its Family Hub 2.0 smart refrigerator range is part of Samsung’s ambitious plan to take on its rivals Google, Amazon and Apple in the smart home market. As Samsung’s smart fridge is already connected with other Samsung appliances, including washing machines, air conditioners, and vacuum cleaners, Bixby’s addition to the home ecosystem will provide consumers with easier control to different aspects of their home.
With devices and apps already taking over every aspect of our lives today, a fully integrated smart home is not a distant reality. 58% of consumers globally find the concept of an internet-connected home or kitchen somewhat/very appealing, according to GlobalData’s 2016 Q3 global consumer survey, with this figure rising to 67% among 25-24yr old millennials. Incorporating Bixby into Samsung’s smart refrigerator will offer consumers the ultimate experience of being hyper-connected and in control of their home anytime, all the time, anywhere.
