Canada retail industry registered a 9.9% decline in IT hiring activity in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.

The industry’s overall hiring decreased by 0.01% in July 2021 compared with June 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.74% share in July 2021, recording decrease of 1.05% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.83% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada retail industry in July 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 71.74% in July 2021, a 37.74% drop over the previous month.

2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed an 11.59% share, decline of 20% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 6.52%, registering a 25% decline from June 2021.

4) Database and Network Administrators and Architects captured a share of 5.8%, down 27.27% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada IT recruitment activity in July 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 35.26% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada retail industry during July 2021 over June 2021.

Amazon posted 69 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 31.68% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 18 jobs and a 25% drop. Loblaw Companies with 10 IT jobs and KAR Auction Services with 8 jobs, recorded a 60% drop and a 52.94% decline, respectively, while Empire recorded a 16.67% an increase with 7 job postings during July 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 55.8%, down by 37.4% from June 2021. Entry Level positions with a 23.91% share, a decline of 47.62% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 20.29% share, up 3.7% over June 2021.
