Production Occupations drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Production Occupations, with a share of 14%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the retail industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings rising by 92% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 14% in Q4 2023, with new job postings dropping by 16% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include Sales and Related Occupations with a 12% share in Q4 2023, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 7% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in retail industry accounted for 53% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Walmart, Fiesta Mart, Amazon, BPS Direct, and Vera Bradley. Together they accounted for a combined share of 53% of all environmental sustainability-related new jobs in the retail industry.

Walmart posted 1,320 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q4 2023, Fiesta Mart 771 jobs, Amazon 607 jobs, BPS Direct 493 jobs, and Vera Bradley 264 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with an 81.49% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the retail industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 81.49% followed by the UK (4.98%) and Australia (2.61%). The share represented by the US was one percentage point lower than the 82.93% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
