Sales and Related Occupations drive retail hiring activity
Of the industry's total hiring activity, the highest number of new job postings were for Sales and Related Occupations, which accounted for 12% of the total new job postings in Q1 2023 and were down by 73% year-on-year. Second highest were Production Occupations, which accounted for 8% and rise by 74% year-on-year, and third highest were Office and Administrative Support Occupations, which were 20% of the new job postings and 21% lower year-on-year.
Top five companies in retail accounted for 64% of hiring activity
The highest number of jobs were posted by Tesco with 18,253, followed by J Sainsbury with 7,019, while the highest increase was at Wm Morrison Supermarkets at 9%.
