Sales and Related Occupations drive retail industry hiring activity
Of the industry's total hiring activity, the highest number of new job postings were for Sales and Related Occupations, which accounted for 16% of the total new job postings in Q4 2023 and were up by 12% year-on-year. Second highest were Office and Administrative Support Occupations, which accounted for 13% and rise by 11% year-on-year, and third highest were Healthcare Practitioners and Technical Occupations, which were 5% of the new job postings and 23% higher year-on-year.
Top five companies in retail industry accounted for 71% of hiring activity
The highest number of jobs were posted by Loblaw Companies with 8,293, followed by Shoppers Drug Mart with 2,757, while the highest increase was at Sobeys at 45%.
