Sales and Related Occupations drive social responsibility-related hiring activity

Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 18%, emerged as the top social responsibility-related job roles within the retail industry in Q4 2023, with new job postings drop by 49% quarter-on-quarter. Management Occupations came in second with a share of 11% in Q4 2023, with new job postings dropping by 4% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent social responsibility roles include Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations with a 10% share in Q4 2023, Production Occupations with a 10% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in retail industry accounted for 38% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q4 2023 were Loblaw Companies, Pilot Travel Centers, Tesco, Hy Vee, and Amazon. Together they accounted for a combined share of 38% of all social responsibility-related new jobs in the retail industry.

Loblaw Companies posted 8,015 social responsibility-related new jobs in Q4 2023, Pilot Travel Centers 7,083 jobs, Tesco 6,811 jobs, Hy Vee 6,457 jobs, and Amazon 3,084 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 64.24% share of total new job postings, Q4 2023

The largest share of social responsibility-related new job postings in the retail industry in Q4 2023 was in the US with 64.24% followed by the UK (15.50%) and Canada (12.49%). The share represented by the US was nine percentage points lower than the 73.45% share it accounted for in Q3 2023.
