Sales and Related Occupations drive social responsibility-related hiring activity

Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 17%, emerged as the top social responsibility-related job roles within the retail industry in Q1 2023, with new job postings drop by 36% quarter-on-quarter. Production Occupations came in second with a share of 11% in Q1 2023, with new job postings rising by 8% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent social responsibility roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q1 2023, Food Preparation and Serving Related Occupations with a 9% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in retail industry accounted for 38% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2023 were Tesco, Pilot Travel Centers, Walmart, H.E. Butt Grocery, and Sprouts Farmers Market. Together they accounted for a combined share of 38% of all social responsibility-related new jobs in the retail industry.

Tesco posted 14,512 social responsibility-related new jobs in Q1 2023, Pilot Travel Centers 6,502 jobs, Walmart 5,042 jobs, H.E. Butt Grocery 4,162 jobs, and Sprouts Farmers Market 2,422 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 66.94% share of total new job postings, Q1 2023

The largest share of social responsibility-related new job postings in the retail industry in Q1 2023 was in the US with 66.94% followed by the UK (21.81%) and Canada (3.19%). The share represented by the US was five percentage points lower than the 71.72% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
