August 2021 has seen an increase of 3.68% in the overall hiring activity when compared with July 2021.
IT jobs accounted for a 14.3% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in August 2021, registering a decrease of 0.35% over the last three-month average share.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in August 2021
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Middle East & Africa with a share of 55.56% in August 2021, a 52.38% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 24.07% in August 2021, marking an 116.67% month-on-month increase. In the third place was Computer and Information Analysts with a share of 9.26% in August 2021, a 150% rise from July 2021.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 30.14% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Middle East & Africa’s retail industry during August 2021 over previous month.
Amazon posted 26 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a decline of 33.33% over the previous month, followed by Shoprite Holdings with 13 jobs and an 18.75% drop. Mr. Price Group with 6 IT jobs and The Foschini Group with 4 jobs, recorded a 100% rise and a 73.33% drop, respectively, while Samsonite International recorded a flat growth with 2 job postings during August 2021.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Middle East & Africa’s retail industry
South Africa commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 61.11% share in August 2021, a 23.26% decrease over July 2021. United Arab Emirates featured next with a 14.81% share, up 60% over the previous month. Israel recorded a 9.26% share, a drop of 75% compared with July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.96%, down by 33.33% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 25.93% share, registered a decline of 12.5% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with an 11.11% share, down 60% over July 2021.
