April 2021 has seen an increase of 7.36% in the overall hiring activity when compared with March 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.51% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in April 2021, registering decrease of 0.07% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in April 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 75.57% in April 2021, a 26.68% drop over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in next, claiming a share of 6.99% in April 2021, marking a 4.35% month-on-month an increase. In the third place was Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a share of 6.88% in April 2021, a 15.51% drop from March 2021.

Top five retail companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in April 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 25.4% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s retail industry during April 2021 over previous month.

Amazon posted 2,821 IT jobs in April 2021 and registered a decline of 32.99% over the previous month, followed by Walmart with 305 jobs and a 7.01% drop. CVS Health with 288 IT jobs and Lowe’s Companies with 154 jobs, recorded a 94.59% growth and a 17.2% drop, respectively, while The Home Depot recorded a 61.84% an increase with 123 job postings during April 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s retail industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 96.27% share in April 2021, a 22.55% decline over March 2021. Canada featured next with a 3.09% share, down 29.96% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 0.58% share, a growth of 20% compared with March 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in April 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 79.72%, up by 20.13% from March 2021. Mid Level positions with a 14.27% share, a decline of 49.24% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 5.77% share, down 83.23% over March 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.23%, recording a month-on-month decline of 25%.
