The UK retail industry registered a 9.7% decline in IT hiring activity in July 2021 compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics index.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 22.94% in July 2021 compared with June 2021.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.11% share in July 2021, recording decrease of 0.81% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in the UK retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in July 2021
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.64% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK retail industry in July 2021.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 60.41% in July 2021, a 28.99% drop over the previous month.
2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed an 18.1% share, a flat growth over the previous month.
3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 10.41%, registering a 31.43% rise from June 2021.
4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 5.88%, flat growth over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in the UK IT recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 15.68% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK retail industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
J Sainsbury posted 260 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a drop of 18.5% over the previous month, followed by Ocado Group with 24 jobs and a 22.58% drop. Phoenix Pharmahandel GmbHKG with 19 IT jobs and ASOS with 13 jobs, recorded a flat growth and an 18.75% decline, respectively, while Boohoo Group recorded a 200% increase with 12 job postings during July 2021.
Junior Level job postings dominate in July 2021
Junior Level jobs held a share of 57.69%, down by 30.52% from June 2021. Mid Level positions with a 22.62% share, a decline of 4.76% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 19.68% share, up 17.57% over June 2021.
