The UK’s retail industry registered a 3.9% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 11.76% in August 2021 when compared with July 2021.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 2.49% share in August 2021, recording a decrease of 0.72% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in the UK’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 97.49% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry in August 2021.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 68.93% in August 2021, registering a 9.34% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed an 8.73% share, a decrease of 45.87% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 7.25%, registering a 25.76% decline from July 2021.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 6.36%, up 16.22% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in the UK’s IT recruitment activity in August 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 7.82% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of the UK’s retail industry during August 2021 over July 2021.

J Sainsbury posted 446 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a drop of 3.88% over the previous month, followed by Amazon with 56 jobs and an 18.84% drop. Walgreens Boots Alliance with 16 IT jobs and Pets at Home Group with 12 jobs, recorded a 40.74% decline and a 33.33% flat growth, respectively, while Phoenix Pharmahandel GmbHKG recorded a decline of 36.84% with 12 job postings during August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in August 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 66.57%, down by 3.02% from July 2021. Mid Level positions with a 17.31% share, registered a decline of 28.66% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 16.12% share, down 18.66% over July 2021.
