The value marked a decrease of 37.8% over the previous month and a drop of 22.6% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $5.63bn.
Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $2.36bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $1.58bn.
In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for retail industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in December 2020 was the US with 25 deals, followed by the UK with eight and Japan with five.
In 2020, as of the end of December 2020, retail M&A deals worth $68.31bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 10.7% year on year.

4) The $360m acquisition of Makro Supermayorista by Inretail Peru
5) The Hut Group’s acquisition of DermStore for $350m.
