Total consumer industry M&A deals in Q1 2019 worth $8.31bn were announced in the US, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 75% over the previous quarter and a drop of 72.9% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $30.63bn.

The US held a 32% share of the global consumer industry M&A deal value that totalled $25.98bn in Q1 2019.

In terms of deal activity, the US recorded 262 deals during Q1 2019, marking decrease of 10% over the previous quarter and a rise of 4% over the last four-quarter average.

The top five consumer industry M&A deals accounted for 60.6% of the overall value during Q1 2019.

The combined value of the top five consumer industry M&A deals stood at $5.03bn, against the overall value of $8.31bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced consumer industry M&A deal tracked by GlobalData in Q1 2019 was JAB Holding’s $1.75bn stake acquisition of Coty.

In second place was the $1.3bn asset transaction with Kellogg by Ferrero International and in third place was Symrise‘s $900m acquisition of American Dehydrated Foods and International Dehydrated Foods.

The $610m asset transaction with 1 Hotel South Beach by Host Hotels & Resorts and Church & Dwight’s asset transaction with Ideavillage Products for $475m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

This analysis considers only announced and completed deals from the GlobalData financial deals database and excludes all terminated and rumoured deals.
