The US retail industry saw a drop of 13.2% in overall deal activity during November 2020, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 33 deals worth $2.91bn were announced in November 2020, compared to the 12-month average of 38 deals.

M&A was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 25 deals which accounted for 75.8% of all deals.

In second place was venture financing with four deals, followed by private equity with four transactions, respectively accounting for 12.1% and 12.1% of overall deal activity in the country’s retail industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US retail industry with total deals worth $2.65bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $250m and $9.32m, respectively.

The top five retail industry deals accounted for 99.7% of the overall value during November 2020.

The combined value of the top five retail deals stood at $2.9bn, against the overall value of $2.91bn recorded for the month.

1) VF‘s $2.1bn acquisition of Supreme Clothing

2) The $350m acquisition of Beverages & More by GoBrands

3) The Carlyle Group’s $250m private equity deal with Pharmapacks

4) The $163m acquisition of SGH Blocker, Solid Gold Holdings and VMG Solid Gold Blocker by Health and Happiness (H&H) US International

5) bebe stores’ asset transaction with Franchise Group for $35m.
