Asia-Pacific witnessed a 26.8% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

October 2022 has seen an increase of 0.03% in the overall hiring activity when compared with September 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 3.91% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in October 2022, registering a decrease of 3.12% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in October 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 50.24% in October 2022, a 45.31% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 25.85% in October 2022, marking a 17.62% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 12.52% in October 2022, a 40.31% drop from September 2022.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 6.83% in October 2022, a 37.31% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Asia-Pacific’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 25.82% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s retail industry during October 2022 over previous month.

Amazon posted 266 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a decline of 40.22% over the previous month, followed by Coupang with 56 jobs and a flat growth. Woolworths Group with 54 IT jobs and JD with 46 jobs, recorded a 31.65% drop and a 23.33% drop, respectively, while Wesfarmers recorded a 20.83% increase with 29 job postings during October 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Asia-Pacific’s retail industry

India commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 35.28% share in October 2022, a 51.35% decrease over September 2022. Australia featured next with a 21.63% share, down 13.07% over the previous month. China recorded a 15.28% share, a drop of 28.24% compared with September 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 69.43%, down by 27.75% from September 2022. Mid Level positions with a 16.42% share, registered a decline of 42.61% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with 13.98% share, down 61.95% over September 2022, while Senior postings accounted for 0.16%, recording a month-on-month flat growth.
