Asia-Pacific witnessed a 6.6% drop in IT hiring activity in the retail industry in September 2021 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2021 has seen a decrease of 0.79% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2021.

IT jobs accounted for a 9.47% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2021, registering a decrease of 0.62% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2021

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in Asia-Pacific with a share of 79.87% in September 2021, a 26.8% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 8.25% in September 2021, marking a 34.78% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a share of 8.02% in September 2021, a 50.24% drop from August 2021.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 1.81% in September 2021, a 25.81% decline over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Asia-Pacific’s IT recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 18.15% in the overall IT recruitment activity of Asia-Pacific’s retail industry during September 2021 over previous month.

Amazon posted 456 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a decline of 9.16% over the previous month, followed by Jd with 296 jobs and a 59.14% growth. Alibaba Group Holding with 177 IT jobs and Woolworths Group with 43 jobs, recorded a 62.26% drop and a 12.24% drop, respectively, while Avenue Supermarts recorded a 35.71% increase with 38 job postings during September 2021.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in Asia-Pacific’s retail industry

China commanded a leading presence in the region’s retail industry IT hiring activity with a 45.6% share in September 2021, a 24.48% decrease over August 2021. India featured next with a 35.14% share, down 27.67% over the previous month. Australia recorded an 8.65% share, a drop of 23.61% compared with August 2021.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2021

Junior Level jobs held a share of 67.85%, down by 28.5% from August 2021. Entry Level positions with a 16.35% share, registered a decline of 15.45% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with 15.25% share, down 43.44% over August 2021, while Senior postings accounted for 0.55%, recording a month-on-month decline of 73.08%.
