Australia’s retail industry registered a 14.5% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.
The industry’s overall hiring increased by 7.15% in September 2022 when compared with August 2022.
Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 3.09% share in September 2022, recording a decrease of 1.35% over the last three-month average share.
Top five job classifications in Australia’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022
Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 98.62% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s retail industry in September 2022.
1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 49.66% in September 2022, registering a 27.27% decline over the previous month.
2) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations claimed a 27.59% share, a decrease of 18.37% over the previous month.
3) Database and Network Administrators and Architects held a share of 10.34%, registering a 40% decline from August 2022.
4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 6.9%, down 23.08% over the previous month.
Top five retail companies in Australia’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 26.51% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Australia’s retail industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
Woolworths Group posted 67 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a drop of 2.9% over the previous month, followed by Amazon with 17 jobs and a 58.54% drop. Wesfarmers with 16 IT jobs and Coles Group with 15 jobs, recorded a 55.56% decline and a 25% decrease, respectively, while Harvey Norman Holdings recorded a flat growth with 7 job postings during September 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 77.24%, down by 23.29% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 15.17% share, registered a decline of 38.89% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 7.59% share, down 31.25% over August 2022.
