The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 22.75% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 9.96% share in May 2022, recording an increase of 1.86% over the last three-month average share.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 82.1% in May 2022, registering a 13.71% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 7.16% share, an increase of 7.69% over the previous month.

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 4.6% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Amazon posted 312 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 10.34% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 30 jobs and a 76.47% growth. Loblaw Companies with 14 IT jobs and Lululemon Athletica with 10 jobs, recorded an 180% growth and a 28.57% decrease, respectively, while Empire recorded a flat growth with 7 job postings during May 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 47.83%, down by 6.97% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 40.66% share, registered a decline of 9.66% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 11.51% share, down 21.05% over April 2022.
