Canada’s retail industry IT recruitment activity drops 1.2% in May 2022

Canada’s retail industry registered a 1.2% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 22.75% in May 2022 when compared with April 2022.

Out of the retail industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 9.96% share in May 2022, recording an increase of 1.86% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s retail industry’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 99.49% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry in May 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 82.1% in May 2022, registering a 13.71% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed a 7.16% share, an increase of 7.69% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 4.86%, registering a 5% decline from April 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 4.6%, up 38.46% over the previous month.

Top five retail companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 4.6% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s retail industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Amazon posted 312 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 10.34% over the previous month, followed by Canadian Tire with 30 jobs and a 76.47% growth. Loblaw Companies with 14 IT jobs and Lululemon Athletica with 10 jobs, recorded an 180% growth and a 28.57% decrease, respectively, while Empire recorded a flat growth with 7 job postings during May 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 47.83%, down by 6.97% from April 2022. Entry Level positions with a 40.66% share, registered a decline of 9.66% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Mid Level job ads with an 11.51% share, down 21.05% over April 2022.
